Ruinas de una antigua ciudad del centro-norte de Yemen.

Fue una ciudad fortificada, capital del estado preislámico de Saba (950–115 BC). Estaba situada sobre una de las rutas de caravanas entre el Mediterráneo y la península Arábiga, y prosperó gracias a su monopolio del comercio de incienso y mirra. La antigua represa de Maʾrib fue construida s. VII BC para regular las aguas del uadi Sadd; con cerca de 500 m (1.800 pies) de largo, permitía regar más de 1.600 ha (4.000 acres) y sustentaba una zona agrícola densamente poblada. La represa fue destruida en el s. VI AD.
